My Tattoo

A lifelong dream I did endeavour
So now you’re here with me forever
A thing of beauty it has to be said
A creation of a true champion engraved into my leg
I can no longer message you
Or reach for the phone and dial
But I can now look down
And see that mesmerising smile
Some say that a tattoo is an unattractive sin
But I’m overjoyed to have you inked into my skin
For I’ll look down and remember how much you inspired me
And how you were the very best person a human could be
I’ll feel your strength and how you never gave in
When I look at this picture of your historical win
I’ll hear you telling me never say no
Then I can get through anything because my hero told me so
I’ll treasure my photo of beauty, honour and grace
With your beaming smile etched on your beautiful face
As you point to that bib that came in first place
In the biggest most gruelling sled dog race
So now, Lance you are with me permanently
My dear friend with me for all eternity
You’ll forever continue to inspire
For in my heart burns a fire
Until my last day on Earth when the flames put out
You’ll remain with me of that there is no doubt
This precious image of you dressed all in red
Wearing bib number thirteen will stay with me until I’m dead.
