What would it actually be like to walk with a wolf ? If you are ever in the Cumbria area, you can find out for yourself.
Earlier this year, we visited the Predator Experience in Grange-Over-Sands, where you can book a couple of hours walking with three young wolves named Chitali, Chalok and Cheveyo.
The experience is run by Dee and Daniel, who know everything there is to know about wolves, their habits, diet and history.
The wolves are brought down from their large, natural enclosure and brought into a fenced off area, where they are let loose to run all around you.
At first, this is a very strange feeling, as you expect to be mauled by a predator, but this not the case. The wolves are inquisitive, yet still very timid.
They are very friendly and will come right up to you and lick your hand and be stroked.
We were given nuts to feed them from our hands.
Dee and Daniel spoke throughout our time there and their knowledge was amazing.
They answered the many stupid questions that were thrown at them and they both were friendly and professional.
At one point, the wolves go onto “pride rock” and its a perfect opportunity to get a selfie with the wolves as they are at head height.
The only thing is you really need to watch whats on your head, as the wolves are notorious for stealing hats.
Guess who’s bobble beanie they decided to steal on the day we visited ?
The experience is rounded off by Dee and Daniel howling at the wolves, in order to make them howl.
Hearing three actual wolves howling in front of you in the woods in the Lake District is something I will never forget.
I would advise anyone who even has the slightest bit of interest in wolves, that this is the place to go.
I can’t express how enjoyable this experience was. Would definitely go again and would definitely recommend it.
Five stars, ten out of ten.
