If you look at the photo above, you can see it’s the Iditarod 2023 restart in Willow.
But what’s different about this photo is not necessarily, whats in it or what it depicts, but who the photographer was.
Did you guess ?
Yes it was me, Richard Bailey of Northernwolf.
I travelled 7000 miles from my home near York in the UK to Anchorage Alaska and spent a week immersed in what is the greatest sled dog race in the world.
Not only was it a fantastic lifetime dream to visit Alaska, and not just that but to visit at the beginning of March when mushers from throughout the state and further afield converge to take part in the 1000 mile sled dog race from Anchorage to Nome, but as you will see in the upcoming articles, I got the chance to surprise my new friend, Jason Mackey and his lovely family.
Faye was supposed to be part of the UK media coverage for this years Iditarod, but due to her ill health and cancer medications she was unable to fly.
So unfortunately, she had to stay home, and I had to be “Faye” for my time covering the Iditarod.
I travelled on the Monday before the first Saturday in March and after a long catchup with some sleep, went to the Media Day at the Lakefront Hotel in Anchorage.
We were given information about the ceremonial start on fourth avenue and the restart in willow on Sunday.
We were also given maps of the areas where we could access as Media representatives that were blocked to the fans in the crowd.
Check out Pt 2 of Northernwolf at Iditarod where I go from Yorkshire to Alaska in 27 hours.
