It’s that time of year again – the first Saturday in March, and in Anchorage Alaska, 49 teams of 14 dogs, get ready to take on one of the worlds most gruelling challenges – The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
It’s a special year, this year. 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the race.
We are especially looking out for Team Can’t Stop this year, made up of Veteran Jessie Holmes, and Rookie Julie Ahnen.
Other mushers to look out for are Brent Sass, Hugh Neff, Ryan Redington, Aaron Burmeister and Anna and Kristy Berington.
The favourite to win this years race, and break the record of winning the race six times, is Dallas Seavey.
Nic Petit, who has finished in the top five several times, has had to withdraw from the race due to a positive Covid test. Luckily for Nic, Veteran Jeff King has stepped in to run Nics dogs to Nome.
This years race is looking to be a classic year and you can catch all the up to date news and videos on Iditarod.com (Insider subscription required for some)
Short video we created to wish Jessie and Julie good luck for Iditarod 50
